Abstract

Alliteration has become an important part of poetry of all time. Alliteration is a means of sound writing; repetition of the supporting consonant, which is, immediately preceding the stressed vowel, as well as the repetition of the initial consonant in different words of the same speech segment; a stylistic device aimed at enhancing the expressiveness of artistic speech, especially verse. In this article, we will analyze the definitions of alliteration in order to create more favorable conditions for comparing foreign texts using this technique and their translation versions in Uzbek. Along with the definitions, we will discuss the functions of alliterations in both Uzbek and English poetry texts, headings of newspapers and names of novels.
