Abstract

Language learning is a long process that involves the learner as a whole person. Learner`s cognitive, physical, socio-emotional condition, motivation, attitude, aptitude, characteristics, learning style and so many other things influence the language learning process and makes the learning path different for different learners. The article was devoted to analyse the language learning strategies learners apply depending on their personality traits. It is discussed different personality traits types and language learning strategies students employ while learning English. The descriptive case study was conducted with the 13-15-year-old teenagers as it aims to describe the phenomenon that happened in the field particularly in the class. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect the data in order to see the correlation between personality traits and Language Learning Strategies (LLS) participants employ. The case study employed Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to identify the kind of personality type of the participants. The test consists of 50 questions with 2 options and only questions #25 and #7 have 3 options to choose. Also, it was employed Oxford`s Language learning strategy inventory to identify which strategy is used mostly by the learners. As a conclusion, it was found out that being Extroverts and Sensing people, learners choose mostly cognitive and metacognitive strategies and are engaged in activities that require working in groups, as a team and practical application.
