This article presents statistical data and some analysis on the level of production of silkworm cocoons, raw silk and silk products in the countries with raw silk and silk products producing. The main observed trend in the world silk market is the curtailment of silk production centers in Japan and Korea as a result of industrialization of these countries. A similar situation is observed in some regions of China, Thailand and Brazil, which are losing discipline and traditions of silk production. Due to the fact that China is the main producer and exporter of raw silk, as well as the main price-forming country on the average world prices of raw silk, the price of raw silk in the world market is formed on the basis of the price of Chinese silk quality 2A and above. Price changes in China directly affect the global price environment. In Europe, raw silk is almost not produced and the high demand for raw materials is covered by imports of raw silk, silk yarn and fabrics
