In this article, instruments that measure yarn deformation are analyzed and a new optical instrument for measuring with a web camera is recommended. The structure, operating principle and obtained data of the device are given. Structural changes of compact and ordinary yarn under deformation up to 1 second are analyzed and appropriate recommendations are given. Experiments have shown that for the same linear density of compact and conventional yarn, the resistance to their stretching will be different and, accordingly, the properties of the fabric from them will differ from each other. It is established that to obtain a knitted fabric with the same parameters of geometric properties, it is necessary to take into account the thread tension of the thread when knitting.
