Abstract

The paper addresses the level of radiation based on the study and analysis of factors affecting the radiation situation in St. Petersburg. The analysis of the radiation background of the city over the past five years is carried out and the share of the influence of each of the main sources of radiation is revealed. The main sources are natural - natural tectonic faults, building materials, household gas, groundwater. The second place belongs to medical equipment, procedures and new methods of radiation diagnostics and nuclear therapy (computed tomography, positron emission tomography, etc.). In third place are man-made objects that use atomic energy. The averaged indicators of the level of radiation in various areas of the city of St. Petersburg do not exceed the permissible norm, but for a number of measurements these indicators are higher. The presented research results show the need for continuous monitoring and monitoring of the radiation situation in the region.
