Article contains the review of literature data in vertebrobasilar insufficiency with vertebral artery stenosis. The most common cause of insufficiency of vertebrobasilar blood circulation is the reflex narrowing of the vertebral artery when their sympathetic plexus is irritated by deformed hook-shaped formations. Four main types of lesions of the vertebral arteries with impaired patency in accordance with etiological factors are given. The modern approaches to the diagnosis of vertebral-basilar insufficiency are described.
