Abstract
the respiratory and phosphorylating activity of mitochondria of brown fat of guinea pigs during the oxidation of various substrates was studied. It was shown that pyruvate + malate is oxidized, is associated with the synthesis of ATP, but has high respiration V4; with succinate oxidation, a higher level of V4 is observed. The oxidation of NADH occurs in a completely non-conjugated way, since the oxidation process does not respond to the addition of ADP or uncoupling. The data obtained indicate the functioning of intensive non-conjugated respiration in the mitochondria of this tissue. It is able to convert respiration energy into heat, since the main function of brown fat is heat production.
