Abstract
The absorption spectra of Y2SiO5: Er3 + crystals irradiated with gamma rays and heat-treated under reducing conditions have been investigated. It is shown that, upon irradiation and heat treatment of crystals, oxygen is removed from the oxygen seven-vertex surrounding the cerium ions, which leads to the transformation of Er1 centers into Er2. The electronic transitions of erbium ions in Er1 and Er2 positions have been solved.
