Culture and Arts of Central Asia


The article focuses on little-studied topics in the national art history such as portrait painting in the genre system of Uzbekistan. This article is devoted to the genre of portrait created by such artists like A.Volkov, V.Kurzin, O.Tatevosyan, V.Ufimtsev, O.Podkovirov, U. Tansikbaev, who were influenced by the Western modernistic ideas. Besides showing artist’s own position and attitude to human, the article gives analysis to these works, which represent the images of eastern men, various researches in creating portrait types, new expressive plastic means in reference to self portrait.
